Competencies and QuestionsEssential question(s): What do "corporate ethicists" do? How does CSR balance ethics and profitability? How do businesses develop their codes of ethics? What is "ethical compliance"? What is "corporate and social responsibility" (CSR)? How does it surface in the corporate world, theoretically and practically?

Please watch this week's screencast, which will orient you to this week's materials. Overview Note that most corporate ethics considerations are addressed in terms of "compliance." Presumably, this means compliance with a set of ethical standards that have already been developed to guide a company. This should lead us to ask, where did these standards come from and who created them? Where did the ethical leadership come from? The bottom line is that corporate ethical standards have to mix well with the profitability. Our interest is in how this happens. Also on our radar is the Corporate and Social Responsibility movement, which Wikipedia defines as follows: "Corporate social responsibility (CSR, also called corporate conscience, corporate citizenship or responsible business) is a form of corporate self-regulation integrated into a business model."
